AUGMENTS THE FESTIVE MOOD IN ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE
“All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to be a ray of the inner light of the self. Merge yourself in this light of lights and enjoy the supreme Deepawali” -Anonymous Keeping in mind the festive mood prior to the Deepawali celebrations across the country, a special assembly was organized on 25th October 2019 , in St Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, by one of the senior Hindi lecturers, Mrs. Nandini Devi K. The assembly commenced with Mr. Sharad Rastogi, an employee of the Prayagraj branch of Bank of Baroda, delivering a speech on the significance of “Clean and Green India” and how “Father of the Nation” Mahatma Gandhi , emphasized on cleanliness throughout his life span. The College Captain Utkarsh Singh took a pledge along with the gathering to make every effort to stop the malpractice of bribing and work towards making India a corruption free nation. Mrs. Nandini Devi K. enlightened the gathering on the significance of the “Festival of lights”,Deepawali and why it is celebrated throughout the world with so much fervour. She also explained the significance of the days after Deepawali as to how Lord Krishna saved the Brijwasis from the anger of lord Indra and the significance of the Govardhan Pooja. Adding further Utkarsh Pandey, Aradhya Vishnu, Shreyas Ranjan and Shaan Kapoor explained on various sacred festivals which take place during the span of 5 days before and after Diwali i.e. Dhanteras, Yam Dwitiya, Deepawali, Govardhan Pooja and Bhai Dooj. Bhai Dooj signifies the bonding of a brother and a sister where the brother enjoys the preparations prepared by the sister. The lighting of the lamp was done by the Principal Rev. Fr. Thomas Kumar, the Additional Administrator Mr. Aubrey Mc Gowan, the Master of ceremony Utkarsh Pandey and Mrs. Nandini Devi K. Adding yet another feather to its cap, St Joseph’s College celebrated the victory at Alfresco in the event ‘football’, held at Boys High School, Prayagraj on 24th October, 2019, by defeating the hosts in their home ground in a nail-biting penalty shootout by 4-3. It is the second consecutive year that St Joseph’s College Prayagraj has emerged victorious defeating the same team twice. It is worthwhile to mention here that Chaitanya Gopesh of St Joseph’s College, emerged as the top goal scorer of the tournament, scoring seven goals in three matches.
